Selamat Hari Merdeka :D

Yes, I know I’m supposed to be posting up the pics from the 2 awesome wedding receptions which I shot recently, but I’m having a hard time picking my fave pics :p Eeks! I so so am gonna finalise my selection by next week!

In the meantime, I’ll just share some fun shots I took earlier today during an impromptu photo outing I had with my young friends - Sherrie, Bang Qin and Nee On :D

merdeka-060.jpg
Yes, the above shot is not sharp, but I likeeee! ;p
merdeka-032.jpg

merdeka-027.jpg

We decided to go for a pre-Merdeka photo outing after I finished a couple portraiture session in the morning. Initially we were a bit peeved off because it started raining right when we decided to go.

But glory be, the rain stopped while we were deciding whether or not to just go on with the outing :)

The weather turned out to be absolutely glorious - sunny day, blue skies (I’m serious - blue, pure blue with no haze!) and ridiculously gorgeous lighting. We were all gushing over the flares that we got from the sun. It was every photographer’s wet dream I tell you!

merdeka-040.jpg

merdeka-042.jpg

merdeka-033.jpg

We took the LRT to Pasar Seni and checked out The Annexe where they had the Rantai-art Merdeka Exhibition. I bought some crafts from the Gerai OA and also an awesome print of a kitten shot (the pussy pic in the pic below :D) by a fantabulous flickr photographer Futuna. Check out her cool shots on the link ya :)

merdeka-058.jpg

We then walked on to Padang Merdeka where we refined the art of loitering (kutu lepak siot ;p) and I took shots of the young ones while they took shots of goodness knows what :p

merdeka-070.jpg
Nice arrr pose like tourists? LOL!

merdeka-050.jpg

Yes, as you can see from the pics, I’m not much of a street photographer. I’ve got this thing about shooting strangers, it feels like I’m invading their privacy (I shy worrrr :p) So most of my shots were of the young ones. Hehehe…

merdeka-087.jpg

merdeka-074.jpg

I admit that I am one of the lucky ones who get to do what I love for a living, but going out for a casual photo outing where no one had any expectations of me actually revved me up to look at things in a fresher way. Funny eh?

On another note, as cliche as it sounds, despite whatever’s happening to the current state of the Govt (banning Malaysiakini? think we idiots arrr??), I still love Malaysia - for all it’s faults, there’s just too many great things about the country for me to even think about migrating elsewhere.

Okay lah, enough of my rambling ons. I won’t be working on Sunday (I’m going climbing! Wheeeee!) so I just wanted to wish y’all a Happy National Day and ‘Selamat Berpuasa’ to my Muslim friends & clients.

Have an awesome long weekend ahead wherever you may be :)

Will be back next week with the promised blog posts :D Woot!

Bulseco’s Family Portraiture

Had the pleasure of meeting the Bulseco’s for a portrait session during their holiday in KL earlier this week. Allison contacted me via email two days before they arrived in KL and luckily enough, I was free on that day.

The family of four were staying at the Ritz Carlton Residence and we had the session where they stayed. Here are some of my favourite shots :)

Look at Kalen’s eyes! Aren’t they gorgeous :)
bulseco-040-copy.jpg

Baby Cona just turned 10 weeks on the day of the shoot and he is soooo adorable. He didn’t make a fuss at all throughout the entire session. As a matter of fact, all the babies I’ve shot so far has been simply wonderful! Lucky me :D
bulseco-117-copy.jpg

Ok here comes a cliche shot, but I kinda like it ;p ‘Old Skool from Totally Rad Actions’ used for the below.
bulseco-034-copy.jpg

It was time for Kalen’s nap when we wrapped up the session. Just in time!

Edwin and Allison, thanks again for having me capture your family portraits for you. It was a pleasure to meet you (albeit briefly ;p)!

Hope you had fun in KL, have a safe trip to Perth :)

Nana - Maternity & Newborn Shoot

Thanks to a referral from Ariff, I had the pleasure of shooting Nana 3 days before she was due to give birth.

Yes, you read it right. Only 3 days before she was due! Thank goodness she didn’t go into contractions when we were shooting, otherwise I would’ve shot her lil baby’s entire birth process ;p

The session was an absolute breeze to shoot cause not only is Nana absolutely beautiful, she’s a natural and very comfortable in front of the camera.

For soon-to-be mama’s who are considering a maternity session, I so so recommend that you get it done. When else would you get to show off your lovely baby bump? I love, love shooting pregnant woman who are absolutely confident about their figure. You are carrying a miracle and I seriously think that deserves to be documented :)

Okay, okay. Enough of me babbling on. Here are some of my favourite shots from the maternity session.

Isn’t she gorgeous? :)
077-copy.jpg

Towards the end of our session, her older son got home from kindy and we managed to get some pics of mother and son. Though the following 2 shots are similar, I couldn’t pick a favourite so I’m posting up both.

128-copy.jpg

Earlier today (well technically yesterday), I popped by to Nana’s place to visit the latest addition to the family. Lil Suleiman is sooo cuteee. At 10 days young, he’s a quiet lil baby and didn’t even squek when he was shifted around when I was shooting him.

Here are some of my fave shots from the session.

033-copy.jpg

Awwww…his lil feet are soooo cuteeee.
051-copy.jpg

Ok, ok. This shot is a bit blurry but I love, love both their expression here.

054-copy-bw.jpg

Now everyone say along with me, “Awwwwwwww……” ;)
069-copy.jpg

Nana, thank you so much for inviting me into your home and for trusting me to shoot something so personal.

It was a pleasure to meet your sons as well. They’re both soooo adorable and they’re gonna grow up to be handsome young men. Too bad they’re waaaaaay too young to be my toy boys. Wahahaaha…I kid, I kiiiid.

See you soon :D

Nadesh & Nina - Solemnisation Ceremony

Nadesh is Eon’s (one of my ‘munyit’ best friends ;p) cousin. He was my senior back in high school so it came as a surprise when a couple of months ago he contacted me saying that he was going to get married. “Nadesh mau kahwin?! Ah, betul bah?”.

Having known him as a joker all these years it came as a surprise (and relief! haahah!) that he had found the love of his life and was more than ready to settle down. Woot!

I met him and his (then) fiance Nina a few months prior to their big day. And I was blown away by how hot Nina was. I think one of the first things I said to Nad was, “Dapat juga ko hot chick as your wife”. Kekekekeke…I think Nad must’ve wanted to give me a slap when I said that. Wahahahah!

nn007.jpg

After months of preparation, yesterday was their solemnisation ceremony. Although Eon couldn’t attend due to work commitments, the rest of the cousins were there and it was awesome to be amongst fellow Sabahans. Bah, berabis la aku ber-dogo (eh betul ka spelling tu? :p).

Nina looked absolutely gorgeous despite the fact that she didn’t get much sleep the night before (as almost all brides who are nervous about their big day!).

Here are some shots from the day. Mind you, I do shoot the standard classic family and newlyweds portraits but I just prefer showing the funny ones on my blog cause well, that’s what really happened on that day :)

While getting ready, Nina was all smiles. Dayum, she was absolutely glowing throughout the whole day!

Gorgeous<i> Nina

Oooo…somebody was nervous ;) Nadesh checking his hands to make sure that they’ve stopped shaking.
nn001.jpg

Sealing the ‘deal’. Woot!
Sealing the deal. Jengjengjeng.

Laughter was aplenty throughout the whole ceremony.
nn006.jpg

Nadesh’s cute parents.
nn008.jpg

Nadesh’s self-proclaimed cam-whore cousins. Was taking their group shots to the extent where one of the aunties said to me, “No need to layan them so much”. LOL!
nn002.jpg

When we were taking some casual portraits outside, I asked Nadesh to carry Nina for one of the shots. You can take a wild guess whether or not the attempt was succesful :p Hehehe…
nn009.jpg

I’ll be shooting their dinner reception later this evening and having just finalised the slideshow for their dinner, I decided to post it up here before I head off to Shah Alam.

The song for the slideshow was selected by the newlyweds and I must say that while it might be a bit goeey for some, I absolutely love, love this mushy Malay song by Andra & The Backbone. So befitting for the both of them!

nn005.jpg

Nadesh and Nina, as cliche as this may sound, I think you’re both ’sempurna’ for each other and here’s wishing you many great times and laughter ahead! Nanti Raya I’ll go visit you to get my duit Raya ok? Kekekeke…

Wokay, have to leave the house now. See ya both later!

The Sze’s - Family Portraiture

I was pleasantly surprised when I saw Joey’s garden. The landscaping was the perfect backdrop for our portraiture session :)

We started off the session at her house first with pictures of her own family as well as her two dogs and thereafter we headed over to her parents house to shoot with the rest of her family.

Oookay, a lil someone was getting a lil bored after the first 10 mins ;)

I had so much fun shooting all of you that day. Thanks for being so accommodating and I hope y’all like the pics.

See ya soon!

Chak’s Family Portraiture

Chak’s been wanting to get family portraits done for his family for quite sometime. Due to conflicting schedules we’ve been ding donging back and forth on the dates and one fine weekend, it was finally confirmed that the shoot was to be done :)

We headed off to Rawang where his maternal grandparents were and had a short and sweet portrait session for his immediate family as well as aunts and uncles.

Here are some of my favourite pictures from the session :)

Chak wanted to replicate a really old family photo which was taken right in front of this very house eons ago. Hence a standard family shot was taken despite all the distractions (fan, bike, etc). ;p
012-copy-bw.jpg

074-copy.jpg

LOL! Pose specially requested by Chak!
094-copy.jpg

My all time favourite photo of Chak’s maternal grandparents. They’re 70+ and 80 already but the most loving grandparents I’ve seen in a long while. I wish all my couples will have a relationship like this as they grow older :)

Thank you again for the home cooked lunch! It was absolutely scrumptious :D Woot!

Neyna & Ibraheem - Maternity Session

I recently had the pleasure of shooting Neyna before she was due to give birth. Ibraheem was game enough to join us for the quick maternity session and here are some of my favourite shots from the session. 113-copy.jpg

Neyna and Ibraheem, thanks again for the session and I can’t wait to meet your baby girl soon :) Woot!

Nate & Terri - Wedding Ceremony & Reception

I’ve been anticipating Nate and Terri’s big day since I shot their casual pre-wedding session back in April.

Their wedding day was a loooong day filled with fun and laughter as besides the church ceremony and dinner reception, there was also tea ceremonies held at two different locations.

Nate and Terri were absolute energizer bunnies as they soldiered on throughout the day all the way till late night with big happy smiles on their faces. Then again, who wouldn’t be happy on the day of their union? :)

We started off the day at Terri’s parents home where the ‘picking up of the bride’ (or better known as “chip san liong” in Cantonese) and the tea ceremony was held before heading off to St Ignatius Church at Tmn Mayang for the church ceremony.
terrinate-611-copy.jpg

terrinate-674.jpg

Terri had a gorgeous bright red cheong sam for the tea ceremony and a beautiful wedding gown for the church ceremony. It was Nate’s first time seeing Terri in her wedding gown when she entered the church and I think he was blown away by how great she looked. I know I was ;)

terrinate-808.jpg

I know Terri’s gonna kill me for saying this buttttt she’s a self-proclaimed ‘waterworks’.

She teared up when Nate entered the room before the tea ceremony, during the tea ceremony as well as during the church ceremony. Terri, with the amount of times you shed tears of joy, I nearly cried along with you. Nice arrrrr ‘waterworks’ so many times????!?! Hehehehe…I kid, I kiiiiiddd.

Right after the kiss ;)

Newlyweds, woot!

After the church ceremony, we quickly shot some casual portraits before we headed off to Nate’s parents house for the tea ceremony.

terrinate-894-copy.jpg

terrinate-519-copy.jpg

The following slideshow was done after the second tea ceremony and finalised before the dinner reception. These were shots from the morning session and Nate & Terri’s guests got to view them during the dinner reception.

To view the slideshow, just click on play, wait till the bar loads fully and enjoy :)

Moving onto the wedding reception - it was held at The Equatorial Hotel (eeks! my mistake :p thx Julian for the heads up. Been shooting in too many hotels around KL la) The Prince Hotel, Kuala Lumpur and the setting was exquisite!

terrinate-1089-copy.jpg

Terri & Nate had different coloured flowers set up for different groups of tables but my favourite was the set up done on the main table.

terrinate-1103.jpg

It was flowers galore!

Flowers Galore!

They also had 5 piece band arranged by Dennis Lau - violinist extradionaire, to entertain their guests throughout the reception.

terrinate-1406.jpg

terrinate-1398.jpg

At each wedding, I have a favourite shot. It’s usually not something which anyone else would like, but for me, I like a particular picture because it reminds me of the moment it happened. And during this wedding, it’s the below picture which makes me smile whenever I see it.

This was a grab shot taken when Nate spontaneously gave Terri a kiss and hug when they were doing the table rounds during the reception.  And for me, Terri’s eyes conveys just how happy she is. Hmm….it’s not something I can explain with words, you just have to be there at that point in time to understand why I like this picture la :p

terrinate-1308-copy.jpg

Ok, ok before I continue emo-ing about the story behind this shot, let’s continue with the rest of the blog post :p

Like the fun people that they are, Terri and Nate’s family and friends were an absolutely wild bunch. Hearty yam sengs were to be had and friends stayed on till the dinner was over to continue having fun. Now that’s how a wedding party’s supposed to be like ;)

Yaaaaaammmm sennnnggggg

terrinate-1296-copy.jpg

And for soon-to-be brides, Terri’s exquisite wedding gown as well as her two evening dresses was designed by Eric Choong and man, they all looked awesome on her. You can check out the dresses in some of the shots shown in the dinner reception slideshow below :)

Terri & Nate, thank you. That day, I felt like I was shooting my friends’ wedding, and indeed I feel like you’re more of my friend now than my client. Hmm…perhaps it’s because we can tokkok and singsong on the same wavelength ;p

That being said, it has been an absolute pleasure for me to meet the both of you, to shoot your portraiture session, to be part of your special day and to also meet your awesome family members and friends who were so nice to me (and who can really ‘yam seng’ whole night long. My hats off to them ;p)

Here’s wishing you two many, many happy days ahead filled with love, laughter and mutual understanding.

Have fun with “Project Baby”! *wink*wink*

A Quick Note

Guess what?

I managed to complete the adidas King of the Road 10km run yesterday morning within approximately 1:05 (I forgot to start my stopwatch at the start, only realised it a few mins into the run. Eeps!). Was bloody surprised as I’ve been too busy to train recently due to the smoking shoots and editing I’ve been doing :p

After that, my friends and I immediately headed over to Summit Climbing Gym for the last Summit Roxx Climbing Competition where I participated in the top rope women’s open category.

Didn’t expect much as well since I haven’t been climbing regularly but surprise, surprise! Managed to snag 4th place. Yay!

Ok, just wanted to share the good news with someone before I continue working. Hehe…

Have an awesome week ahead everyone :D

After the prize presentation with part of my climbing gang, fellow posers Bang Qin (3rd place for men’s bouldering), Ah Fai (2nd place for men’s bouldering) and me :D. Woot!

Edit: Shi Wen just emailed me the below pics he shot during the prize presentation. Hehe…thanks bro!

I Am Still Aliveeeeee!

Yes, o’dear friends who still drop by this blog of mine.

I’m still alive and well.

Been tied up the past couple of days with shoots, editing batches (and batches!) of pictures, finalising layouts for photobooks, meeting up with some corporate clients and just trying to squeeze in some ‘me’ time by working out at the gym.

Yes, I would’ve had time to blog if I didn’t go work out. But for me to sacrifice working out just so that I can blog?! Sacrilegious!

There’s actually tons and tons of stuff I wanna blog about! But, but I’m just knackered by this time of the night that for now, I’ll just post up a lil preview of what’s to come.

A fun, fun wedding of an awesome couple! This one’s gonna be a biiiig post :D
terrinate-674.jpg

A family shoot with the cutest grandparents ever! Aaaanddd, a reunion/climbing session at Summit Climbing Gym.
031.jpg summit-gang-057.jpg

An awesome maternity session - tho I’m not sure whether or not I can post up some of the pics cos I haven’t asked the hot mama yet ;p
020.jpg

Besides the above, I’ll have a family portrait session this coming weekend so stay tuned cause once I get my groove back, I’ll be blogging with a vengeance (ya, ya call me drama queen if you will :p)

On a quick note, for couples who are getting married soon, do check out the upcoming Signature Photographers talk which is happening on August 10 (this Sunday). Fellow photographers (and my friends :D) Louis Pang and Jenny Sun are part of the group and they’ll be giving out talks on that day as well. For more details, check out Louis’ or Jenny’s blog.

As for me, I’ll be running (or more likely, walking :p) 10km (eeks!) this Sunday morning during the adidas King of The Road event in Shah Alam AND climbing at the final Summit Roxx Climbing Competition in Summit Climbing Gym straight after.

Frankly speaking, I have no idea what I was thinking when I registered for both of these events. Yoiks!

Wish me luck peeps!
